Lucknow: A strategic review meeting focusing on the long-term development roadmap of the State Capital Region (SCR) and urban infrastructure planning was held following discussions between senior representatives of Defence Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh and officials of the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA).
According to an official release, representatives of Rajnath Singh, including MLC Mukesh Sharma and parliamentary representative Diwakar Tripathi, met with the Vice Chairman of the Lucknow Development Authority Prathamesh Kumar on June 29 to discuss the preparation of a comprehensive master plan for the State Capital Region and the implementation of modern urban development regulations. The discussions also focused on ensuring that property owners receive services and approvals in accordance with building bylaws and development norms.
The meeting highlighted the growing importance of the State Capital Region, which was officially notified by the Uttar Pradesh government on July 19, 2024. The region encompasses the districts of Lucknow, Hardoi, Sitapur, Unnao, Rae Bareli, and Barabanki, creating an integrated development zone around the state capital.
Rapid Infrastructure Growth Driving New Planning Needs
Officials noted that since Rajnath Singh was elected as Member of Parliament from Lucknow in 2014, several major development projects have been approved and implemented with support from both the Central and State governments. These initiatives have significantly transformed the region’s infrastructure landscape.
Among the key projects cited were the development of the 104-kilometre-long Outer Ring Road, widening and strengthening of highways connecting Lucknow with Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Kanpur, Hardoi, and Sitapur, and major upgrades to railway infrastructure. Expansion and modernization works at stations under both Northern Railway and North Eastern Railway, including the development of Alamnagar Satellite Station and the Gomti Nagar Railway Terminal, were highlighted as major achievements.
Officials also pointed to the expansion of airport infrastructure in response to rapidly growing passenger traffic following the construction of the ring road and improved connectivity. The establishment of industrial and defence-related units, including projects associated with BrahMos and Ashok Leyland, was cited as evidence of Lucknow’s emergence as a major investment destination.
Focus on Future-Ready Infrastructure
The discussions emphasized that ongoing economic growth, technological advancement, and industrial expansion require proactive infrastructure planning. Participants agreed that future investments and emerging industries must be supported through adequate land availability, transportation networks, power supply systems, drainage infrastructure, and other essential public services.

To meet these objectives, stakeholders stressed the need for a long-term development strategy capable of anticipating future requirements and creating world-class infrastructure before demand reaches critical levels. Such planning, they noted, would enable new enterprises and institutions to begin operations without facing logistical or infrastructural challenges.
LDA Preparing Detailed Development Blueprint
During the meeting, the Vice Chairman of the Lucknow Development Authority Prathamesh Kumar informed representatives that work on the proposed development framework is progressing rapidly. A detailed presentation on the roadmap is expected to be placed before stakeholders during a forthcoming review meeting.
The authority also outlined measures being undertaken to improve services for property owners and residents. Special camps are being organized regularly to facilitate approvals and provide assistance related to building regulations and compliance requirements. Officials stated that efforts are being made to ensure that all statutory provisions and legal conditions are implemented efficiently and transparently for the benefit of citizens.
Vision for an Integrated Capital Region
The discussions reflected a broader vision of transforming the State Capital Region into a modern, well-connected urban and economic hub capable of supporting future population growth, industrial development, and technological innovation. With large-scale infrastructure investments already underway and new planning initiatives in progress, policymakers aim to position the region as one of northern India’s leading centres for commerce, connectivity, and employment generation.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to accelerate planning efforts and ensure that future infrastructure development aligns with the long-term aspirations of the State Capital Region and its residents.
